131120三涼:We will miss you, Gary

Heard that you will return to the US end of this year, Gary. Seems quite sudden.
When you reported to work in China on a backpack two years ago, I guess you were sincere, not just to put up a show. If Chinese officials who always play big shots wherever they go felt embarrassed because of the earthly behavior of the first US Ambassador to China of Chinese descent, so be it. The Chinese people thank you for your effort.
The Chinese media said you were leaving because of family problem. If true, hope it will come out all right. But because of the Wang Lijun and Chen Guangcheng incidents, you may not be that welcome in Beijing. If so, any discrediting of their enemies by the official media has to be taken with extra caution.
    Wish you all the best.
And let us hope, your successor will be as earthly and as fruitful in his/her effort to cement a better relationship between our two countries.
And in the long run, hope that one day, we will see a Chinese Ambassador to the US of ‘American’ descent, in whatever sense that may be.
